Blueberry Hemp Heart Protein Smoothie

My fiance Ben can be pretty difficult when it comes to his food. He is a hardcore steak and potatoes kind of guy, and although nothing is wrong with that, I personally can’t live on a diet like that every single day. While he is typically a good sport when it comes to giving new things a try, he usually equates health food with bird food, and doesn’t really see the importance behind a healthy diet. After all, he is 29 years old and claims he still feels as good as he did when he was 21. To that, I say yeah, right. Ben and I have been together for 8.5 years and I know exactly how he was at 21 compared to now. Trust me, it’s a big difference.

About 6 months ago while Ben was doing our usual Costco haul (I am not allowed to go since I spend too much money), he found a deal on hemp heart seeds and figured I would like them since they seemed like something I would eat. Hemp hearts are just the latest addition to a long line of super foods, offering us a broad spectrum of health benefits and everlasting youth. Okay, so I made the last part up, but there is some interesting and impressive research out there on the benefits of hemp hearts so I figured it was worth a shot. I am not a person that believes the hype surrounding every latest and greatest super food to hit the shelves, but when I find something that has helped improve my health in one way or another, I want to share the good word.

One of the supposed benefits that hemp hearts claim to provide is an extra boost of energy, so when Ben started to workout again and was complaining of feeling drained by 4:00pm, I figured that adding hemp hearts into his morning smoothie wouldn’t hurt. At first I didn’t even tell him that I was adding them in because I knew that if he did know, he would somehow convince himself that he all of the sudden didn’t like his smoothie anymore. Truth be told, he never noticed a difference as far as taste was concerned, but he did notice that his energy levels were through the roof. He initially chalked it up to ‘stepping up’ his workout, but I am pretty sure the hemp hearts played a part in this newfound vitality.
